Getting Back Behind the Wheel with SR22 Insurance, Part II

Filed under: California High Risk Car Insurance, SR 22 Insurance — California High Risk Car Insurance Editor @ 6:48 pm

In the last post I talked about my surprise when I was finally out on my own and had to get my own car insurance policy. I had been sheltered up until that point as my parents had paid my car insurance premiums which were surely lower because I was covered under their umbrella policy. But now I was out there on my own – on a single policy. And because of my age and my marital status the premiums were high. I was caught off guard by how much I had to pay. But it got worse. During that time I got several driving violations and it got to the point where I actually had my license suspended. This was a humbling experience. I was without a car but still had to get to work – and this was my first job in the real world. I counted on the kindness of friends and the limited public transportation that I had at my disposal.

When I did get my license back I was required to carry SR22 insurance which validated that I carried the high risk auto insurance that I needed to be on the roads. Finding affordable California high risk car insurance is easier said than done. You would think that because the policy prices are so much higher that every insurance company would offer high risk auto insurance policies. But the truth is that not every insurance company offers them. Think about it; when an insurance company offers a high risk policy they are assuming that risk and they have the potential to lose a lot of money if they lose that gamble. I had to do a lot of research to find a company that could offer me a high risk auto insurance policy and still more work to find the company that could offer me the policy that I could afford.
