Ins and Outs of High Risk Auto Insurance, Part I

Filed under: California High Risk Car Insurance, Car Insurance Quote California, High Risk Auto Insurance — California High Risk Car Insurance Editor @ 12:52 pm

Most would be hard pressed to determine any benefits of any kind of car insurance – as policies are typically expensive and it can be difficult to determine which one is the best value. But the benefits quickly become clear when a traffic incident leaves you with vehicle damage to yours and even another party’s car. Auto insurance has its place in the world and is meant to ultimately protect us on the roadways; and high risk auto insurance is no exception.

High risk auto insurance refers to an insurance policy for those who have less than desirable driving records; those who perhaps have a multitude of traffic violations, convictions for driving under the influence, or those who have even had their license suspended in the past. Even younger, less experienced drivers are considered “high risk” in some states and are required to carry high risk auto insurance.

The first thing to know is that not every insurance company offers high risk auto insurance. Offering California high risk car insurance means that the company is absorbing some above-average risk and not every company is in the position (or is willing) to do this. So be sure to work with an insurance company that offers the type of insurance that you need and is able to offer a competitive car insurance quote. California, like most states, can be confusing when it comes to finding affordable, yet still comprehensive, car insurance so take your time in doing your research.

So, you may wonder, what will high risk auto insurance do for me? After all, you’re paying higher rates than typical drivers and you wonder if you should even bother. First of all, insurance is legally required for all drivers and if you are required to carry high risk auto insurance then you put your license at risk by not abiding. In the next post we’ll talk about some more of the ins and outs of high risk auto insurance.

Lower Rates on California High Risk Car Insurance While Decreasing Risk, Part II

Filed under: California High Risk Car Insurance, High Risk Auto Insurance — California High Risk Car Insurance Editor @ 3:27 am

In the last post I talked about my desire to be a grownup and gain my independence and the decisions that I made as a result when I finally did get my driver’s license. It was all too much, too quickly and before too long I had gotten several violations – enough to have my license temporarily suspended. When I finally got it back I was a much different person and was living a very responsible life. But I still had to pay for my mistakes and one of the first was having to have high risk auto insurance. I found an insurance carrier that specializes in high risk auto insurance and that gave me a discount car insurance policy that worked for my needs. With insurance in hand it was time to start taking the steps to reducing my risk as a driver so that I wouldn’t have to always carry California high risk car insurance.

Some of the steps to reduce your risk as a driver include:

• Making sure that all violations have been answered and all fines paid. In order to start with a clean slate you need to make sure that everything prior is addressed so you can move on from there.

• Obey traffic laws. This seems like the most obvious but it’s what got us into trouble to start with. It is important to follow the rules of the road and establish yourself as a safe driver.

• Drive a safe car. A safe driver drives a safe car. Insurance rates are affected by the type of car that you drive. A sports car that is made for fast driving, for instance, is likely to garner a higher rate.

• Go to school. There are driving classes that you can take to help improve your record and give you a chance to brush up on the rules you may have forgotten.

Lower Rates on California High Risk Car Insurance While Decreasing Risk, Part I

I couldn’t wait until I was a grownup – couldn’t wait to have all the freedom and independence that I desired. And mostly could not wait to drive my own car; to go where I wanted to go when I wanted to go. That was before I realized everything that came along with that freedom and independence; mainly a whole lot of responsibility. I was so hungry to burst out of my parents’ house and get on the road that I did a whole lot of things of which I am not proud. I was already considered a high risk driver because of my age and because I was new on the road. By the time I was twenty-one, however, I had already had my license suspended because of multiple traffic violations. I’m older now, and I would like to think a lot more responsible. I’m living a very different life than I was then and I recognize that being a grown up comes with privileges as well as responsibilities. But that doesn’t mean that I get out of the repercussions of my past decisions. I have my driver’s license back but now I need high risk auto insurance in order to legally be on the road.

Finding California auto insurance that is affordable can be difficult anyway, but finding California high risk car insurance is even more of a challenge. I needed to find a policy that I could afford and start making my amends and lowering my risk – and eventually my insurance prices.

What I did first was find an insurance carrier that specialized in high risk auto insurance. They were able to get me a lower rate on the high risk auto insurance that I needed. And then I began to take steps to decrease my risk. More to come in the next post…

California Auto Insurance; Fact and Fiction

Filed under: California Auto Insurance — California High Risk Car Insurance Editor @ 6:32 pm

So when I moved to California from the east coast several years ago I was not at all thrown off by the cost of living considering I was going from one expensive area to another. But, I admit, I had hoped that some things would be less pricey than I was used to paying. Car insurance, for example, had always been a thorn in my side. I lived in a state that had one of the worst reputations in the country for expensive auto insurance policies. I was looking forward to at least being able to come out of pocket less than I had been doing in this regard. But it was not to be.

Within a year of moving here I did something that I will always regret – I went out with friends and then I got behind the wheel. Luckily I did not hurt myself or anyone else; I was pulled over by the police and arrested for driving under the influence. This was not the first time I hate to admit and I swiftly lost my license. This was the most shameful time of my life but it taught me a huge lesson. Unfortunately, that lesson will continue to follow me as now I am required to carry high risk auto insurance in order to drive legally since I got my license reinstated.

This was where I really freaked out. I had gone from barely being able to afford my car insurance that I had been paying in my previous home state to being able to finally have insurance coverage with more reasonable policy prices. Just when I had become accustomed to this change in pricing I was now going to have to pay for SR22 insurance which I was pretty sure was going to be impossible on my salary.

Here’s the truth – SR22 insurance – or California auto insurance that was required for those with records like mine – was expensive. There was no doubt. But it being completely unaffordable was not a reality. I was able to find – through my Internet research – a car insurance quote California drivers would be surprised to hear of for high risk auto insurance.

In my opinion, paying more for insurance for this period of time is a small price to pay for a foolish decision. I am just happy to be able to have found something I can afford.

Looking for Affordable SR22 Insurance

Filed under: High Risk Auto Insurance, SR 22 Insurance — California High Risk Car Insurance Editor @ 3:57 pm

I do not have what you would call the best driving record. I have had some past indiscretions that caused me to lose my license for a period of time. I finally have my license back and I’m anxious to get back on the road but apparently I’m not able to just pick up where I left off; there are insurance considerations with which I have to deal. When you have a past like I do, SR22 insurance is required to get on the road safely. Here’s how it works…

SR22 insurance proves that the driver is carrying at least the minimum required insurance for the state in which they driving. Procuring a SR22 insurance document, however, can be expensive and can stop many people who need high risk car insurance from getting what they need and getting back on the road safely and legally. I, for one, was pretty convinced that there would be no way that I would be able to afford the insurance I needed and I was resigned to public transportation and the kindness of friends with cars for at least the foreseeable future.

With the Internet at my disposal, however, I was able to do the research that would have once involved grueling hours on the phone finding an insurance company that offered SR22 insurance at all; and if they did offer it then chances are that it wouldn’t be something I could afford. But going online allowed me to easily and conveniently browse through California auto insurance companies that offered high risk auto insurance.

As it turned out there are companies out there that offer SR22 insurance for drivers like me and in no time at all I found coverage that I could afford. With just a little bit of online research I was able to get what I needed to get back on the road.
